Job Description:

 

DUTIES: The Assistant will primarily assist the Curator and Archivist with the completion of an ongoing Collections Accessibility project inventory of the Museum’s artifact and archival holdings which will include artifact cataloguing, artifact photography, archival arrangement and description, digitization of archival records, and updating database records. In addition to these primary duties the Assistant will also contribute to research and content development for museum exhibits and the delivery of visitor services including exhibit or other interpretation and/or assisting with delivery of special events, and/or assisting youth summer programming. The Assistant will assist with day-to-day administrative operations such as opening/closing the Museum, gift shop sales, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS: Preferred areas of study include university/college history, anthropology/archaeology, museum studies, library/archival studies, or a related field. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills. The candidate must be comfortable interacting with all segments of the public, including working with and supervising children and youth in an educational setting. Must have excellent research skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word and Excel required. Familiarity with social media platforms, museum/archival database software, and/or photography considered assets. Previous experience in a museum/heritage environment or with educational/interpretive programming considered an asset. Must be fluent in English, written and/or oral communication in French or another minority language considered an asset.
