About the CMA
The Canadian Museums Association (CMA) is the national organization for the Canadian museums sector.

Job Description
This is an executive level management position, primarily responsible for the Association’s overall public affairs, for its advocacy programs, as well as oversee its Young Canada Works (YCW) programs. This position will require an awareness of ongoing activities and expectations in the museum community so that the CMA's vision, mission, and strategic plan, is maintained and effectively communicated.

This position reports to the Executive Director and CEO of the CMA, and also acts as a Deputy director of that organization.

Duties

Management
• Develops, presents, and manages CMA projects and programs that serve the museum community, and also indicates opportunities consistent with the CMA's strategic plan
• Manages communications and marketing activities consistent with the CMA's strategic plan and its various museum projects and programs
• Manages grant activities and programs, including YCW programs, and associated contribution agreements
• Manages program evaluations and performance measurements, undertaken by the CMA and its staff
• Assists with the development and monitoring of CMA strategic and implementation plans
• Assists the Executive Director in managing the CMA, its programs and staff, and acts as a Deputy Director
• Coordinates activities and responsibilities with the Director of Membership and Corporate Affairs, and with the Chief Operating Officer
• Manages annual budget allocations for the department
• Provides succession training for the department as necessary

Public Affairs and Advocacy
• Oversees the CMA’s professional as well as its public communications and marketing to ensure all communications and marketing are timely and responsive, and that all forms of communication and services are dynamic, and comprehensive in their content
• Works closely with the Executive Director on government relations, including pro-active meetings, preparing briefs and the contents or texts of advocacy statements
• Works with Executive Director, and the Director of Membership and Corporate Affairs, on activities for the annual Canadian Museums Day on Parliament Hill, including logistics
• Undertakes research and consultation to identify issues and possible solutions
• Monitors and advocates for key issues and develops relationships with key government and community leaders
• Acts as a spokesperson for the CMA as requested or required

Young Canada Works Program
• Oversees Coordinators to ensure efficient and consistent delivery of the Young Canada Works program in compliance with the Canadian Heritage program guidelines
• Ensure CMA’s ongoing compliance with the YCW program guidelines and contribution requirements
• Review and approve all payments for the YCW program
• Act as a resource for resolving employer and participant issues, and other complaints as may arise
• Oversee the timely and accurate preparation of all reports required by Canadian Heritage for the Young Canada Works program

Special Projects and Liaison
• Initiates special projects, from concept to completion, including their implementation, monitoring, performance management and evaluation
• Develops project plans and writes proposals
• Liaise with existing and future funding agencies and the broader museum community
• Helps develop contacts on issues to promote a respected and credible image of the museum community, while advancing its issues
• Works with committees and groups on many projects

Travel
• Undertakes some travel within Canada as required to represent CMA at various meetings, provincial conferences, etc.

Qualifications:
• Excellent communications and interpersonal skills in French and English
• Ability to work with a wide array of communities and individuals and to motivate others
• Museum experience and appreciation and an understanding for the arts, heritage, cultural and scientific sectors
• Experience in dealing and liaising with government and funding agencies, as well as related organizations
• demonstrated management skills, systems, and procedures
• experience with new technologies and social media
• Understanding of public policy and government operations
• Resourceful, practical, tactical, innovative, and creative
