The Montreal Holocaust Museum educates people of all ages and backgrounds about the Holocaust, while sensitizing the public to the universal perils of antisemitism, racism, hate and indifference. Through its exhibitions, its commemorative programs and educational initiatives, the Montreal Holocaust Museum promotes respect for diversity and the sanctity of human life.

Every year, the Museum welcomes over 10,000 students and organizes hundreds of group visits. As part of our annual recruitment drive, we are currently looking for candidates interested in becoming volunteer guides at the Museum.
Volunteer guides help the Museum by leading guided tours and educational workshops for school groups and adult visitors in French and/or in English. Museum guides welcome groups and educate and sensitize visitors. They also share adapted historical content and information about the collection, while providing visitors with a memorable experience.

Guide responsibilities:
1. Training to lead guided tours:
a. Study the mission, history and philosophy of the Museum
b. Study the history of the Holocaust
c. Complete the guide training program:
Master the content of the guided tour
Apply the various approaches, strategies and techniques demonstrated to different audiences
Participate in ongoing training sessions and continue to develop expertise about the subject
Optional training to lead educational workshops

2. Leading guided tours:
a. Welcome the group
b. Clearly and concisely, present the content in a dynamic and enthusiastic way
c. Respect time limits and key messaging
d. Should any issues arise, follow emergency procedures and ensure the security of all participants
e. Accompany the group to its next activity

Required qualifications:
1. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in French, English or both
2. Interest in the history of the 20th century and the promotion of human rights
3. Experience in education, animation or serving the public is an asset
4. Curious with a keen interest in learning
5. Organized, committed and reliable
6. Adaptable and flexible

The next training session will take place during the weeks of August 19 and September 9 2019, with ongoing self-directed learning to be completed by December 2019. The training session will include the following three stages:

1. Candidates will acquaint themselves with the historical content during the summer (based on suggested readings/viewings and material provided by Museum staff).
2. Candidates will participate in two full training days in August and a half-day of training in September, and will complete the list of required activities before undergoing their evaluation.
3. Candidates will be evaluated during the month of December. They will then lead their first independent guided tour.
