Job Description:

Located in beautiful Victoria, British Columbia, the Royal British Columbia Museum is one of Canada’s great museums.

The Royal BC Museum is a major provincial and national cultural institution, charged with researching, collecting, preserving and exhibiting the historical evidence of British Columbia. The Museum exists to help society understand change. It is an educational institution that strengthens society through cultural and scientific understanding—helping to create the society of the future. As a primary destination, the Museum welcomes 750,000 visitors each year, 170,000 attendees at learning programs and events, and over 8.5 million visits to our website.
The Museum is seeking two new executive members, a Vice President of Advancement and a Chief Operating Officer, both of whom will be members of the executive team.

The Vice President, Advancement (VP) leads and defines the strategic direction for a multi-faceted fundraising, marketing and public relations division of the Museum. In particular, the VP provides advice and collaborates with the CEO to ensure an integrated approach to fundraising. The VP leads a professional team that communicates the Museum to a variety of external audiences and stakeholders, and builds relationships that generate sponsorship and philanthropic income to support the business objectives of the Museum. In addition to the VP’s focus on fundraising, s/he ensures that the Museum’s exhibitions, programs, and research are effectively communicated externally, thereby growing the reputation of the Museum and the awareness of its activities. The VP will lead a complete rebranding of the Museum to develop its’ national and international profile.

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) leads a team of professionals and is accountable for the delivery of administrative and operational programs within the Museum, including management of the facility (properties, buildings, infrastructure and contract resources); security, business continuity and risk management; human resources, professional development and volunteer services; information technology and information management; implementation of business development programs including venue hire. This position ensures these areas of responsibility are coordinated and acts as a change agent to support the Museum’s growth. The COO ensures the Museum fulfills all obligations and reports on activities related to all Memorandum of Understanding.

Consideration of candidates will begin immediately, with interviews scheduled for early December in Victoria.

Please note: The Museum is under-represented by Indigenous staff members. Applications from Indigenous professionals will be particularly welcome.
