Job Description:

 

The Manager of Education and Programming seeks to hire a student to assist with the following education program initiatives for Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame from May – August 2018.

Students will assist in the delivery of education programs to Kindergarten to Grade 12 students from May – June 2018 and to summer camp groups from July – August 2018. Students will handle original artefacts as part of program delivery and in accordance with approved museum standards.
Students will also help to research, design and develop two new education program initiatives that are part of the Virtual Distance Learning Program content. During this time they will learn how to access research materials related to our Honoured Members and use the information to write content to be utilized in the Virtual Distance Learning program, how to access the collections database to review Honoured Member video clips and select sections that could be used in the Virtual Distance Learning programs, and how to write scripts, do sample productions and be videotaped presenting a program to test the presentation systems.

Students will also be expected to learn the existing school programs and summer camp programs in order to be able to present from May-August 2018. Students will shadow existing presenters and once familiar with the programs will deliver all programs for the project duration. This will also include a portion on how to handle original artefacts and present their historical significance and cultural history stories to students, and accessing research materials related to our Honoured Members for learning and educational purposes.

Students will also be asked to attend regular meetings with the curatorial/programming team to ensure that the content being researched and developed meets the guidelines for content development. Other duties include contributing to customer service through our admissions desk, assisting with events, and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
• Students must be attending a post-secondary program full-time and must meet all eligibility criteria for Young Canada Works (YCW) or Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ). Preference will be given to students in history, education, kinesiology, or other related fields.
• Experience or interest in teaching/presenting and working with school aged students is required. An interest is sport history would be an asset.
• Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills are required.
• Ability to work and be flexible in a fast-paced and changing environment.
• Well organized and independent workers and have intermediate computer skills (Microsoft Office)
• Intermediate French would be an asset but is not required.
• Students will be required to provide or obtain a valid vulnerable sector police check.

Interviews will be conducted by the Manager of Exhibits and Collections May 2-8, 2018. A maximum of 5 candidates will be interviewed.

Start date to be May 14, 2018. End date to be August 31, 2018. Dates subject to funding.

Eligibility: Students must meet all eligibility criteria for Young Canada Works (YCW) or Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ), depending on approved funding source. If the funding source is YCW, Students must be registered with YCW prior to being interviewed and all candidates selected must be approved by YCW to confirm their eligibility in advance of them being offered a position.
