JOB DESCRIPTION: PROJECT ASSISTANT, RESIDENTIAL SCHOOLS AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

The Residential Schools Awareness Campaign Project Assistant will be an individual who is passionate about Historica Canada’s work, has had experience working with a team to achieve deliverables in a timely fashion and is enthusiastic about creating a legacy for all Canadians. The successful candidate is creative, driven, and is knowledgeable about the history Canada’s Residential School System, including its impact and continued legacy on Indigenous peoples today.

The responsibilities of the Assistant include:
• Assist with the research, development, and production (with the Project Manager, Producer, Director and other staff) of educational materials — including a learning tool, a podcast, and a video series — that examine the impact and legacy of the Residential School System in Canada;
• Assist with the research, image sourcing, script development, and production (with Project Manager and other staff) of bilingual podcast and video series about Residential Schools in Canada;
• Responsibility (shared) for English- and French-language copyediting and reviewing on learning tools and other program materials;
• Providing support to Project Manager, including clerical and research support;
• Liaising with production partners, and Indigenous and historical consultants, as needed;
• Research and writing for web and social media, as needed;
• Media outreach and promotions support, as needed;
• Processing permission requests;
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• A degree in Education, Publishing, Canadian Studies, Indigenous Studies, History, Journalism, Film or equivalent;
• Strong proofreading and copyediting skills (French and English);
• Strong communication skills (French and English);
• Excellent organizational skills, ability to multi-task;
• Excellent communications skills including writing and editing (French and English);
• Knowledge and understanding of Canadian history and history education in Canada an asset;
• Excellent attention to detail;
• Professional working experience in the non-profit, heritage or education sector an asset.

This is a contract position beginning no later than September 23, 2019 and ends on March 31, 2020. The salary will be paid at the hourly rate of $21.03, less applicable statutory deductions, which will be paid to the successful candidate twice a month.
