Job Description:

The North Vancouver Museum & Archives (NVMA) is seeking a dynamic and energetic Director to lead the NVMA through our exciting next phase of development. With a stunning new museum under construction in Lower Lonsdale, the heart of Vancouver’s North Shore, we are seeking a leader to shepherd an organization that is vibrant, relevant and successful. The NVMA is a community-oriented heritage and engagement organization with a mission to strengthen its community by creating opportunities for North Vancouver residents and visitors to explore the community’s past and present, and to imagine its future. The NVMA operates the Museum of North Vancouver (opening mid-2020), a state-of-the-art community Archives located in the restored Lynn Valley School heritage building and an expanding community mobile exhibit program.

The Director reports to a Commission whose members are jointly appointed by the City and the District of North Vancouver. The Director works closely with NVMA staff, municipal staff, Commissioners, the Friends of the NVMA Society (a registered charity) and community partners to ensure the ongoing success of the NVMA. The Director is responsible for managing and overseeing all aspects of the Museum and Archives, including financial operation, fund development, operational services, staff, facilities, programs, and collections, while ensuring the NVMA fulfills its mission. The Director will continue the NVMA’s transformation from a hidden gem into a prominent public cultural resource with a stable financial foundation, broad community engagement and an expanding circle of supporters.

The new Director will possess a relevant graduate degree in such fields as public or not-for-profit administration, arts administration, informal education/program engagement, modern museum studies, or public history. Significant, progressive senior-level management experience is also required, as are strong verbal and written communication skills, and proven skills in community engagement. Additional education in a related discipline such as integrated cultural and natural history, Indigenous studies and anthropology is a benefit. Personal characteristics include strategic thinking and a collaborative leadership style, creativity, and flexibility. Conditions of employment include a valid Class 5 BC equivalent drivers licence, a Police Information Check and a Credit Check. This position offers an attractive remuneration and benefits package.

If you are passionate about leading the North Vancouver Museum & Archives through this exciting period of change, apply on-line through the City of North Vancouver’s Career Portal at www.cnv.org/CareerPortal, submitting your cover letter and résumé or CV, prior to 5:00 p.m. on Monday April 15, 2019. Thank you for your interest in the North Vancouver Museum & Archives.
