Public Programming Assistant
Part time/Casual: 14 – 21 hours per week (2 to 3 days per week)
Wage: $15.00 per hour

Position Start Date: February 2019
Deadline for Applications: Monday, January 28, 2019

The Kelowna Art Gallery is now accepting applications for a part-time Public Programming Assistant. This position will play a key role in helping to coordinate the Gallery’s tour program, which runs up to four tours per day, Monday through Friday. This position is an opportunity to build on experience working with all ages and expand your knowledge of the visual arts.

Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Education and Public Programming Coordinator, the Public Programming Assistant will support the Gallery’s tour program by:

Leading educational exhibition tours to all ages
Facilitating hands-on art activities
Assisting with training and overseeing school tour volunteers/docents
Daily organizing, cleaning, and preparing supplies
Assisting with other public programs as needed

The ideal candidate possesses the following qualities, knowledge and experience:

A university degree in visual arts, art history, education, or another related field
Experience in a museum, gallery, or teaching context dealing with front-line tasks and working with the public
Knowledge of art history, as well as artist techniques and materials
Enjoys working with people and children in a social learning environment
Excellent customer-service skills
Ability to be courteous at all times and in all circumstances
Be dynamic, proactive, and outgoing
Ability to provide a recent and valid police background check
