Collection Manager

Your Challenge
If you dream of joining an organization that is small enough to be noticed and big enough to provide a meaningful career, we want to hear about you! The House of Commons Office of the Clerk is currently looking to staff the position of a Collection Manager.

As the Collection Manager, you will be responsible for the care and preservation of the Heritage Collection, including the intellectual and physical control of heritage artefacts, data quality of the collection management records, and for providing expert advice to the Curator on the care, treatment, and use of heritage objects. In addition, you will give advice or recommendations on collection management and conservation strategies to ensure best practices in the viable long term preservation program for the House of Commons Heritage Collection.

The Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate would have knowledge of best practices in museology specific to collection management in a heritage setting, and of techniques and practices related to the cleaning, care, condition reporting and storage of heritage objects.

Prerequisites

Education
•Undergraduate degree in a related field, certification from a recognized Museum Studies program, and a minimum of five years practical experience in the care and management of heritage artefacts OR a combination of education and recent relevant experience.

Experience
•Experience in the best practices and in the direct care and handling of heritage artefacts;
•Experience in both traditional and contemporary (i.e. web-based) historical research methodologies;
•Experience working with and/or collaborating with heritage institutions or legislative bodies;
•Experience working in a team environment and in the coordination of logistics.

Assets
•Knowledge of and use of KE EMu Electronic Cataloguing System;
•Knowledge of asset tracking systems;
•Forklift certification and/or training;
•Ability to work in an environment that occasionally requires physical effort to move pieces of furniture, artefacts and art work of moderate weight.
