Title: Building and Maintenance Coordinator
Reports to: Executive Director
Employment Status: Term / Full-time for 1 year with possibility of extension
Compensation: $17 to $21/hour dependant on experience
Deadline: July 28, 2019
Location: Ottawa, ON (Carp)
Hours: Full-time regular position; 37.5 hours/week Monday to Friday, including Tuesday
evenings and occasional weekends.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Building and Maintenance Coordinator is responsible in various building and facilities
functions including preventative maintenance and building maintenance.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
● Museum internal and external structures;
● Facilities functions including preventative maintenance, conservation, preservation,
security, building maintenance;
● Planning, preparation, and implementation of training programs in support of the
facilities related aspects of the museum: health and safety, emergency procedures,
disaster recovery, etc;
● Mechanical, electrical, and water systems testing and reading;
● Technical systems – telephone, server, Wi-Fi, audio-visual, lights, air circulation and
filtration, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, emergency power generation, security, and
fire safety;
● Working closely with Technical Services Volunteers;
● Contracts and contact with suppliers (snow removal, landscaping, cleaning, garbage and
recycling coordination etc);
● Storage rentals;
● Department work plans and annual budget;
● Technical and building assistance with new and existing exhibitions, programs and
activities;
● General maintenance activities, including floor maintenance and operation of a floor
machine;
● Communication with all departments, assisting with varying types of projects or process
improvement programs for which facilities maintenance knowledge would be critical to
their success and achievement of their goal;
● Act as staff supervisor as needed, with duties including coordinating, administering and
offering high quality visitor services, acting as “Chief of Duty” as main contact person
for that operational day and supervising front line staff.
● Supports front-line staff with museum coverage as needed during peak times;
● Other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate should have the following qualifications:
• Secondary school or equivalent diploma.
• 2-5 year experience in facilities and building, operations, services, and maintenance.
• Able to adapt to situation and innovate or improvise as necessary.
• Communicate effectively with people at all levels.
• Perform work to required standard.
• Make sound decisions regardless of situation. Seeks clarification or further information
as warranted by the situation.
• Work effectively as part of the team, whether in a lead role or as a team member.
• Able to identify and use tools, techniques and materials as identified and required during
performance of duties. Able to interpret manuals, blueprints and schematics as necessary.
• Standard First Aid & CPR C, WHMIS
• The majority of the requirements of the position can be performed in a normal office
conditions; however, the candidate must be able to work in both interior and exterior
environments and must be able to lift/move 40 pounds

ASSETS
• Post secondary training in facilities and building management;
• Experience in a museum or national historic site environment.
