Fort Calgary seeks an experienced and results-oriented fundraiser in the permanent, full-time role of Fundraising Officer. Fort Calgary will soon be starting construction on our New Museum Project designed in collaboration with Treaty 7 Nations, Métis Nation of Alberta Region Number 3 and the RCMP. The new 12,750 square foot museum will engage visitors in new perspectives on our history and ways it still shapes us today. The Fundraising Officer will have a primary responsibility for the final phase of capital funding including the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of corporate and individual prospects. The Fundraising Officer will also direct fundraising activities to support annual operations.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: • In partnership with the President & CEO, develop strategies to increase contributed revenue from corporate, foundation, government and individual donors
• Work closely with the management team to develop urgent and compelling proposals, in particular, refining the case for support for the New Museum Project
• Use various tools and strategies to identify prospects and conduct research
• In partnership with the President & CEO create cultivation plans to engage new donors
• Flex your writing skills in partnership with Marketing & Communications to craft proposals, and other collateral
• Draft and facilitate gift agreements
• Show your flair for Project Management by effectively manage projects, track activities and progress, and assist with follow-up actions
• Plan and implement a new Stewardship Program, including accurate reporting, communication, and authentic engagement activities
• Work in compliance with fund development best practices and ethical standards
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE • Extensive knowledge of effective fundraising strategies and techniques for growing non-profits; thorough and specific knowledge of the principles and techniques of major giving
• Strong knowledge of local and provincial donors and prospects; existing familiarity and relationships with these donors and prospects is a significant asset
• Excellent relationship building, written and verbal communication skills
• Highly self-motivated and directed
• Ability to handle confidential information appropriately and to demonstrate excellent judgement when communicating with/about donors and prospects
• Minimum five years of experience and tangible track record in corporate and individual major gift fundraising
• Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional weekends and/or evenings
• Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle is a requirement for this position
EDUCATION • Post-secondary education or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
• CFRE or equivalent professional designation is an asset
