Job Description:

The Collections & Outreach Assistant is a crucial role to assist the museum with ongoing work in collections, archives, databases, as well as development of exhibits. It includes reorganizing the collection of artifacts, documents, maps, and historic photographs to build a more accessible and professional collections system. This position is entry level and requires a background and understanding of museum collection practices. The successful candidate will gain practical, hands-on experience in basic collection functions, including heritage preservation, conservation, research, and interpretation. This position will work closely and collaboratively with a Collections Manager and Education Programs Manager. By the end of the summer, the successful candidate will allow the museum to access more artifacts, improve database records, improve public knowledge and awareness of the collection, and other critical museum collection activities.

You can live, work, and play in the heart of the Canadian Rockies. The Canmore Museum and Geoscience Centre captures life in the Bow Valley, including the coal mining history in Canmore (this year commemorates the 40th anniversary of the closure of the last mine). We also operate the historic North West Mounted Police Barracks, the longest standing barracks in Alberta.

This position is dependent on funding from the Government of Canada/Government of Alberta.

Send us resume and a cover letter indicating why you want to join the Canmore Museum and Geoscience Centre and how you will help us achieve our key outcomes. What excites you about working in the museum world and how can we help you reach your professional development goals? Send your application to director@cmags.org.
