The Southern Alberta Art Gallery (SAAG) is one of Canada’s leading contemporary art galleries. For over forty years, SAAG has evolved from a grassroots initiative to become a significant participant in the national dialogue on contemporary art.

SAAG is searching for an experienced, dedicated individual to fill the position of Curatorial & Publications Coordinator. The candidate will possess excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Working with many members of the SAAG team, job duties include but are not limited to:
· Exhibition coordination administration, budgeting and production facilitation

· Exhibition and installation preparatory assistance

· Writing and organizing production of exhibition content such as didactic materials, artist biographies and exhibition information

· Coordinating guest curator and artist travel, orientation and installation support

· Facilitating and managing exhibition catalogue and publication production, distribution, book launches and archival projects

· Managing acquisitions and holdings of the SAAG Art Book Library

· Maintaining exhibition records, archives, databases


The ideal candidate for the Communications Coordinator position will have the following education, skills, and characteristics:

· The candidate should have a Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in a relevant area of study, such as Curatorial or Museums Studies

· The candidate should have knowledge and a passion for contemporary art, art publications, cultural and not-for-profit sectors

· The candidate must have previous curatorial assistant or installation experience, with three years minimum experience in a related field or position

· The candidate must be self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and multi-task

· The candidate must have excellent communication skills; both written and verbal, with demonstrated capabilities in proof-reading, editorial and writing

· The candidate must have strong organizational skills and be a detail-oriented individual, with demonstrated project management experience

· The candidate must have strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with a variety of individuals and audiences

· The candidate should have above average computer knowledge and skills; expertise in Microsoft Word and Excel are required, database management and archives management knowledge

· The candidate should have the confidence to foster, initiate and maintain positive relations with all SAAG stakeholders, artists and colleagues.

Regular hours of work are Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM. Occasional shifts outside of the normal work schedule will be required throughout the year for exhibition openings, exhibition installation and other events, as required.

This is a permanent full-time salaried position.
35 hours per week: flexible schedule to coincide with events.
Overtime, weekend, and evening hours will from time to time be required.
