Job Description:

 


Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Manager of Philanthropy is a key member of the leadership team responsible for securing resources for the WDM through a comprehensive fundraising program. The Manager of Philanthropy creates and implements a variety of fundraising activities including major gifts, planned giving, annual giving, corporate donations and grant solicitation. The Manager of Philanthropy is responsible for identifying and soliciting new prospects, managing donor and member relations, and securing resources for the WDM.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Major Gifts and Planned Giving:
• Responsible for developing and executing major gifts and planned giving programs.
• Assumes primary responsibility for a portfolio of major gift and planned giving prospects and donors; develops and implements tailored action plans, solicitation strategies and proposals for each prospect; makes face-to-face calls both with and without key volunteers and WDM staff.
• Develops and implements a comprehensive plan for the marketing of major gifts and planned giving, including developing information resource materials, approaches for contacting donor target groups, approaches for contacting allied professionals, etc.

Annual Giving and Grants:
• Responsible for developing, executing, and evaluating annual and special appeals to build individual and corporate giving.
• Identifies, cultivates and solicits existing and prospective individual, business, foundation and other major supporters to achieve annual and long-range fundraising targets.
• Oversees the membership program and advises on changes to member benefits and overall program design.
• Nurtures existing WDM members, cultivates growth and coordinates opportunities to expand membership.
• Researches and develops funding proposals for charitable foundations, corporate charitable funds, granting agencies, service clubs and other similar funds.
• Provides oversight and assistance to Museum Managers to implement local fundraising initiatives.

Stewardship and Communication:
• Leads and supports the delivery of the highest standards of stewardship to the WDM’s donors aimed at deepening engagement with current donors and building the pipeline for leadership, major, and planned gifts. • Supports the CEO and Board of Directors in fostering and maintaining strong relationships with major gift and individual donors.
• Prepares articles, information and marketing materials, as required, to support gift opportunities and recognize donors and sponsors.
• Organizes and helps deliver information seminars for prospective donors, professional financial and estate planners, and other constituencies as required.
• Maintains the highest level of confidentiality in dealing with donors, potential donors and members.

Management and Administration:
• Assists and advises the CEO regarding strategic, operational and policy decisions within area of expertise; participates in institutional strategic and operational planning.
• Develops detailed acceptance policies, procedures, and protocols for various types of donations including establishing procedures for the tracking and qualifying of planned gift/major gift prospects and supporting these procedures through careful and confidential record keeping.
• Keeps informed about the fundraising field generally, the tax aspects of charitable gifts and legislative requirements affecting such gifts, in the Canadian sector.
• Ensures tax receipts are properly processed for all donations and gifts; receives, acknowledges and tracks donor contributions, pledges, in-kind donations, grants and other payments.
• Compiles reports on fundraising activities and ensures that reporting schedules are maintained for funding agencies
• Other duties as assigned by the CEO.
