Position Overview:

Educate and inform visitors about the social history of 19th century Ontario. Deliver educational programs and tours for schools and public groups. Interact with visitors of all ages and teach history through museum programs, hands on activities, and demonstrations. Provide excellent customer and client service. Occupational health and safety is a major responsibility of this position. Weekend work required.

NOTE: Hiring at TRCA is contingent to the clearance of the Vulnerable Sector Screening. Candidates will be asked for a screening only where they have been selected as the leading candidate.

Knowledge and Experience:
•Post secondary education in a related field.
•Excellent communication and presentation skills.
•Knowledge of, or willingness to learn about, 19th century Canadian Social History.
•Experience teaching groups in a non-school setting.
•Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a demanding customer-based environment.
•Knowledge and skills related to 19th century trades and/or domestic arts, an asset.

Major Responsibilities:
1.Interpret the goals of BCPV and the mandate of the TRCA to the public in an interesting and professional manner.
2.Welcome, inform and entertain the visiting public by presenting information and program activities with enthusiasm and imagination.
3.Instruct / educate the public, who range in age from preschool to seniors, in all the public and education programs available, employing a number of learning concepts and teaching strategies.
4.Initiate visitor interaction with direct involvement, where possible, in demonstrations and activities.
5.Educate and inform visitors about the social history of 19th century Ontario, the role and mandate of the T.R.C.A., and the links between the site and the Ontario Education Curricula.
6.Demonstrate excellent customer service skills, both verbal and non-verbal, with all customers including other staff members.
7.Learn information and organize all items required for the successful delivery of programs.
8.Safeguard the collection of artifacts, and care for the interiors of buildings on a regular basis to maintain order and cleanliness.
9.Learn and interpret information about the 19th century on an ongoing basis.
10.Attend enrichment sessions which are scheduled as part of the work day including the annual orientation and training days.
11.Wear and care for the assigned costume articles and accessories according to the guidelines set out by the Costume Department.
12.Work in a safe manner and follow the safety procedures outlined in the safety manuals.
13.Other duties as required.
