Job Description:

  Historical Interpreter
Discovery North Bay Museum is hiring a historical interpreter who will be responsible for delivering museum programs and tours at Discovery North Bay Museum while conducting historical research and working with the public in a retail setting.
This position will run for approximately 11 weeks for 30 hours a week at $14.00 an hour.

Description of Duties
• Welcome visitors and conduct tours of museum when requested
• Provide historical walking tours of downtown North Bay
• Provide customer service by performing reception, cashier, and retail duties in museum gift shop
• Provide community outreach in support of museum programming
• Perform maintenance work when required
• Conduct historical research to enhance existing walking tours and haunted hikes
• Assisting with creation of a plan for modified permanent exhibits
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
• Demonstrated interest in local history and excellent written and oral communication skills
• Ability to conduct research independently
• Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite
• Experience providing tours in a museum setting an asset
• Experience working with children in educational setting an asset
In order to be eligible for this position, applicants must meet Canada Summer Jobs funding eligibility which states that eligible candidates:
• are between 15 and 30 years of age;
• have been registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;

• are legally entitled to work in Canada, according to relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
