SBC Gallery of Contemporary Art is a non-profit exhibition centre and public gallery in Tiohtià:ke/Montréal, dedicated to providing a forum for artists, curators and cultural practitioners for projects that critically engage with current issues in art, culture and society.

SBC’s collaborative approach to cultural production runs through our distinct programme of exhibitions, events, research, public outreach activities and publications. We embrace different ways of making - making objects, making relations, making politics, making publics -, to build relationships between practitioners, publics and institutions in order to foster a diverse and complex community.

Job Description

We are currently seeking a dynamic, highly organised individual to join our growing team as Communications Assistant.

Reporting to the Exhibitions & Communications Coordinator, the Communications Assistant will apply
their professional experience as well as their theoretical knowledge through the implementation of the
communication strategies of the gallery. The candidate will be in close contact with our media, artistic and
institutional partners while developing their professional skills.


The Communications Assistant’s Main Responsibilities:

• Implement the communications and marketing plan for key events at SBC, including exhibitions, conferences, screenings, educational programming and fundraisers. This includes the revision of press materials, graphic design for the website and other promotional materials related to SBC’s activities.
• Contribute, maintain and develop SBC’s relationships with media partners, with the goal of increasing the presence of the gallery in arts journals (journalists, art critics), cultural publications and the general press.
• Maintain and expand SBC’s web presence using digital, web, social media (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram) and other tools to effectively promote the organization.
• Participate in the implementation of a museum discourse and institutional materials prepared as part of the presentation of an exhibition.
• Interact with the public.


Minimum requirements for the position

• Knowledge of the issues surrounding contemporary art and culture.
• Familiarity with institutional communications procedures.
• Knowledge of technologies related to the production of Web content and social media including
• Wix and MailChimp or equivalent.
• Excellent knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator is essential.
• Bilingualism is an asset. Some knowledge of English or French as a second language is desirable. SBC can provide language support in either second language, if needed.



The Candidate Must:

• Be organized, industrious, thorough and a team player. Self-motivated with an excellent attention to detail. Good multi-tasker who works well under pressure.
• Be autonomous and resourceful, able to find solutions to technical questions related to the website, social media and other communication tools.
• Have excellent interpersonal and intercultural communication skills.
• Demonstrate the ability to write clearly and persuasively.
• Work well in multicultural teams and with diverse constituencies.
• Must be eligible for the Emploi Quebec wage subsidy programme.

Salary

$15/hour, 30 hours per week for a contract duration of 30 weeks. The candidate must be available
occasionally for events held outside of the work schedule, on Thursday evenings and Saturdays.
