The Art Gallery of Greater Victoria seeks a dynamic and ambitious Curator of Asian Art to support the needs of its diverse exhibitions and collections programs. The Curator of Asian Art will assist the Chief Curator and AGGV curatorial team in the development and implementation of an integrated exhibition and collecting plan that meets the long-term objectives for the Gallery. As a member of the Gallery, the candidate will organize and project-manage local, national and international in-house and circulating Asian art exhibitions, including research, conceptualization, exhibition design, production of publications, development of interpretive materials, and installation. The candidate will also play a key role in developing, researching, maintaining and sharing the Gallery’s collection of more than 11,000 works of Asian art. In addition, the Curator of Asian Art will also serve in the capacity as Lecturer in Curatorial Studies in the Department of Art History and Visual Studies at the University of Victoria. In this position the candidate supports curriculum and program development and contributes expertise in the areas of museum studies and curatorial practices. Mentoring of teaching will be offered to the candidate by Faculty in the Department of Art History and Visual Studies.

Requirements:
A PhD in a relevant area of study with a knowledge of art and cultural history of Asia, and experience in curatorial work is required. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of curatorial experience, preferably in a museum setting, in areas including exhibition planning and implementation, and collections care and research, as well as proven administrative, financial and organizational skills.

An art history professional with solid achievements and a good reputation in the milieu, the candidate must possess superior communication skills, art historical research abilities and a publication record in an area of expertise.

This position also includes duties and responsibilities at the University of Victoria including graduate supervision and teaching.
