Job Description:

Are you passionate about the history of the Fraser River Valley? Are you familiar with the indigenous, farming, logging, and recreational communities within the Agassiz-Harrison Valley? Do you enjoy working with the public, object, and archival collections? Then consider joining the Agassiz-Harrison Museum and Visitor Information Centre (http://agassizharrisonmuseum.org/), located in the heart of downtown Agassiz. The members and volunteers of the Agassiz-Harrison Historical Society have been preserving and sharing the stories of the District of Kent and the Village of Harrison Hot Springs for four decades.

Are you familiar with Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office, Adobe, Epson, and Cannon software? Are you dedicated, hardworking, detail oriented and capable of lifting up to 50 lbs? Can you work as part of a small, effective team and independently? Do you want to make a big difference to our unique community?

We are looking for a Community and Education Programming Specialist to help us develop and deliver unique public and educational programs tied to the prehistory and history of our community. This six-month internship opportunity is ideal for recent graduates of museum studies programs with additional background and/or undergraduate degrees in the fields of education, history, anthropology, archaeology, indigenous studies and/or cultural resource management. Experience working with a variety of age groups and individuals with diverse cultural backgrounds is preferred.

This is a 6-month internship position, pending funding from the Young Canada Works at Building Careers in Heritage program.

Eligibility requirements include:
-Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible);
are legally entitled to work in Canada;
-between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
-willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment;
-will not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) while employed with the program;
-are an unemployed or underemployed college or university graduate, that is, not employed full-time;
-are a recent graduate who has graduated from college or university within the last 24 months at the start of employment;
-are not receiving Employment Insurance (EI) benefits while employed with the program; and
-have not previously participated in or been paid under this or any other Career Focus internship program funded under the Government of Canada's Youth Employment Strategy.
