The Woodstock Art Gallery (WAG) preserves, manages and interprets a multi-million dollar permanent collection of works of art for the citizens of Woodstock. The Registrar/Head of Collections of WAG is responsible for all aspects of collections care and collections management, including monitoring the condition of works of art, maintaining the collection database and collection records, confirming legal documentation relating to acquisitions are completed, ensuring appraisals and insurance values are kept up-to-date. The Registrar/Head of Collections oversees all acquisition activities and loans and recommends guidelines and policies for the department. The WAG has an active exhibition schedule including an annual juried exhibition, rotating temporary exhibitions of local, regional and national significance and permanent collection exhibitions. Registrar/Head of Collections assists the Director/Curator to manage an active exhibition schedule and co-ordinate installation and de-installation of exhibitions. The Registrar/Head of Collections assumes responsibility for all incoming/outgoing loans and transportation of art works. The Registrar/Head of Collections will research, develop and design permanent collection exhibitions under the direction of the Director/Curator. Key working relationships will be with the Director/Curator, the Head of Education, Culture-Custodian, Visitor Services Coordinator, and Communications/Facility Rentals Coordinator, the Collections Committee, interns, students, donors, curators, artists and volunteers.

Qualifications:
To be considered, applicants must possess the following qualifications:
• A minimum of a B.A. degree in fine arts, art history, museum studies or related field; a M.A. is preferred.
• 3 to 5 years museum experience in managing fine art collections and gallery exhibitions
• Knowledge of computer applications, specifically Microsoft Office, and Collections Management Databases.
• Valid driver’s license an asset.
• Knowledge of current practices in the proper handling of art works.
• Thorough knowledge of contemporary and historical art locally, nationally and internationally.
• Ability to conduct scholarly research.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with respect to historical and contemporary artwork for public presentations, project proposals, grant submissions, publications and other printed or electronic materials.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision in a team environment.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, artists, professionals within the gallery communities, volunteers, donors and the public.
• Highly developed organizational skills with good attention to detail.
• Ability to effectively work on multiple projects simultaneously.

Working Conditions:
Evening and weekend work may be required. Hours worked as scheduled by Curator. Heavy lifting and climbing ladders to access art works and artifacts. Working in contact with conservation equipment and chemicals when necessary. Nature of work results in frequent interruption. Applicant will be expected to staff the front desk during staff lunches, interact with the public, orient visitors, register participants for programs and represent the Gallery to the public.
