jJob Designation: Part-Time Senior/Master Instructors for Adult, Youth, Children and Preschool Visual Art, Dance, Digital Art, Fibre Art/Sewing, Ceramics, Preschool Art, Culinary Arts
Department: Recreation and Culture - Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre
Salary Range: $27.72-$33.25 hourly
Temporary: Contract hours, by course appointment, varied at 1 to 8 hours weekly, starting January 2019

Job Responsibilities:

To provide instructional art classes in a variety of media to children, youth and adults in a studio arts, dance, digital arts, fibre/sewing, clay, or culinary arts. Must be an independent, reliable individual able to work with minimal supervision and expected to assist in developing curriculum.

Master instructors are responsible for developing program specific curriculum, preparing and teaching classes to ages 3+ in any of the following media:
• fine arts (drawing, painting, printmaking),
• dance (ballet, jazz, creative dance, dance mix, hip hop),
• digital arts (Adobe Creative Suite, 3D printing, beat making, DJing),
• fibre arts (sewing, craft, felting, fashion)
• ceramics (clay),
• preschool art/
• culinary arts

Master instructors will:

• Prepare, lead and deliver visual art and craft classes to meet the needs of all participants registered in the program
• Assist in the research and development of appropriate arts programming for beginner and practicing artists, ensuring that art activities are safe, creative, and inclusive of all program participants
• Provide a positive learning and recreational experience for all participants

Qualifications/Skills:

• Enrollment in or completion of a post-secondary program in Visual Arts or a related discipline
• Demonstrated abilities and a strong knowledge of contemporary visual art
• Familiar with a broad range of artistic techniques, practices and materials with one or more of the following interests/skills: painting, drawing, illustration, printmaking, mixed media, textiles/fibre arts, ceramics, woodworking, digital art, dance and movement, culinary arts
• Experience developing lesson and activity plans
• Previous teaching experience in an educational setting
• Strong organizational, planning, time management and leadership skills
• Ability to be flexible and adapt instructional practices to diverse audiences
• Ability to work independently
• Training in HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD)
• Successful candidates who are new hires and/or who have not performed in this position previously will be required to provide as a condition of employment a satisfactory police vulnerable sector check at their own expense dated within the last 30 days.
