Job Description


The Assistant Curator of Engagement is a temporary position that gives hands-on experience to developing professionals interested in curatorial, community outreach, and social justice work in a contemporary arts centre, art museum, or public gallery. The Assistant Curator of Engagement will focus creating an accessibly report for the AGGV’s exhibitions and programming as well as co-organize their own programming with a community organization partner.


Qualifications:
The Assistant Curator of Engagement is a recent graduate with a background in visual arts, art history, gender studies, social justice studies, social work, art education, interdisciplinary or museum studies. The position requires strong communication skills and organizational skill, writing skills, event planning, and experience working with underrepresented communities. Preference will be given to candidates who have previous experience with community outreach. Optimal software knowledge: Adobe Creative Suite, The Museum System Collections Database, Basecamp, and Google Drive. The position involves community outreach, acquiring partnerships, interviewing, researching, audience development, project evaluation, writing, planning, scheduling, and coordinating. Eligible applicants must:

• Be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada; Note: Non-Canadian students holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible.

• Be legally entitled to work in Canada;

• Be between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;

• Have finished the school term at the start of employment;

• Meet the specific eligibility criteria of the program to which you apply;

• Be registered in the YCW online candidate inventory;

• Be willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment;

• Not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) while employed with YCW;

• Be an unemployed or underemployed college or university graduate, i.e. not employed full-time;

• Be a recent graduate who has graduated from college or university within 24 months of the start of employment;

• Not be receiving Employment Insurance (EI) benefits while employed with YCW;

• Not have previously participated in or been paid under this or any other Career Focus program funded under the Government of Canada’s Youth Employment Strategy.
