CAREER OPPORTUNITY
Head, Collections Care and Conservation
Salary: Up to $ 90,000 per annum
Royal British Columbia Museum

The Collections Care and Conservation Department manages, ensures the long-term preservation of the museum’s collections by maintaining the highest standards of collection care, conservation and registration. It achieves this through a professional team of collection managers, registrars and conservators, who work collaboratively with colleagues and volunteers; other museums (locally, provincially, and internationally); academic institutions; British Columbia government ministries, researchers, volunteers, and members of the public.

Reporting to the Deputy CEO and Vice President, Collections, Research and International Programs, the Head of Collections Care and Conservation will take the lead on development and implementation of the museum’s Collections Strategy. This strategy identifies collections gaps and subsequently develops all areas of the collection by acquiring objects and specimens to improve the diversity within the collection.

This senior role is key to the successful delivery of the Royal BC Museum’s strategic objectives related to collections care, registration and conservation. This role provides management oversight, ensuring that the collection is conserved and available to be studied on behalf of all British Columbians. This role represents the museum in all matters related to the museum collection and may be asked to specifically represent the museum in science related matters, all the while providing a model of excellent leadership, advocacy for, and engagement with all collections of the museum.

This senior role collaborates openly with colleagues, partners and other interested stakeholders at the provincial and national level; and provides inspirational and accessible leadership to his/her staff. With a deep understanding of conservation and collections management; a reputation for strategic thinking and practical implementation, the Head is able not only to devise and implement strategic change that supports the vision and mission of the museum, but also is able to coordinate and thoughtfully manage the varied operations of a dynamic, diverse and complex department.

This position requires Criminal Records Checks under the BC Public Service Screening Policy and the Criminal Records Review Act and all applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada (be Canadian citizens or have Permanent Resident status).

We are accepting applications for this opportunity until 11:59pm (PDT), June 6, 2018. Please refer to the job profile and leadership competencies found at www.royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/employment for more detailed information regarding the expected qualifications for this position.
