Archives Assistant – YCW BCH (Limited Term)
The Dundas Museum and Archives is the grateful recipient of funding from the Young Canada Works Building Careers in Heritage Program administered by the Canadian Council of Archives for a full-time limited term Archives Assistant.
This is a unique opportunity to join a small museum team. The successful candidate will be working with others to make archival materials available and accessible to a growing audience. We are seeking an individual who has an interest in all aspects of the management of an archival program, especially within a community museum setting. The candidate must be passionate about public access to archives and their management.
As a valued member of the team at the Dundas Museum and Archives, and under the supervision of the Archivist, the Archives Assistant will gain valuable experience in:
- Acquisition and accessioning
- The arrangement, description, and digitization
- Reference service
- Promotion and outreach through exhibitions development and social media campaigns
- Preventive and active conservation

Qualifications and skills:
You must be a recent graduate (within the last 24 months at the start of employment), preferably from a master’s level archives or information management program. Students graduating from master’s level museum studies, library studies, undergraduate programs majoring in history or college level archives, museum or library programs may also be considered.
As well you should have the following skills:
- Superior attention to detail and highly developed organizational skills.
- Excellent interpersonal communication is essential.
- The ability to work independently and take initiative when necessary is required.
- Exceptional customer service is an asset.
- Proficient in Word, Excel, and Photoshop. Familiarity with scanning and database management is an asset.
- Bending, reaching and lifting (up to lift 50 pounds) are essential requirements of this position.

Details:
Project Duration: 20 weeks (700 hours) full-time
Contract Term: 9 September 2019 to 07 February 2020
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 9am-4:30 pm (35 hours per week)
Remuneration: $17.00/hour, plus mandatory employer benefits.

• are willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment.

• are a recent graduate who has graduated from college or university within the last 24 months at the start of employment.
• are not receiving Employment Insurance (EI) benefits while employed with the program and have not previously participated in or been paid under this or any other Career Focus internship program funded under the Government of Canada's Youth Employment Strategy.

The candidate must be registered in the Young Canada Works inventory.
