Randall House Museum is located in beautiful Wolfville, Nova Scotia. Open from late May until mid October the museum is the only community museum within the town. The Curator manages the museum for the season and mounts special exhibits that focus on important historical aspects and celebrations of the community. This year the museum will have a special exhibit, guided tour, and programming that relate to the celebration of Wolfville's 125th anniversary since incorporation as the Town of Wolfville as well as on war heroine Mona Parsons, a Wolfville native and the only female Canadian citizen to be imprisoned by the Nazis during World War Two. Tourists and community members alike visit the museum during its open season for events and to see the special exhibit(s).

The Wolfville Historical Society is looking for an enthusiastic and outgoing student, preferably with a History or Museum Studies background, to help share the history of Randall House Museum by acting as our Heritage Interpreter/Guide for the upcoming 2018 season. Working under the direct supervision of the Curator, and the overall supervision of the Randall House Management Committee, the Heritage Interpreter/Guide will be responsible for ensuring that visitors of all ages and backgrounds have an interesting, informative, and enjoyable experience at the museum. This is accomplished by greeting and welcoming visitors to the museum and providing them with an introduction to its history, layout and themes.
On a weekly basis the Heritage Interpreter may also be responsible for conducting guided tours, related to programming, that may take visitors outside the walls of the museum. From time to time the Heritage Interpreter will also be required to assist with other tasks as they are able including: developing and delivering interpretive programs, maintaining records of visitor attendance, providing local information to visitors, assisting with research inquiries, looking after donations, conducting retail sales in the museum's gift shop, assisting with mounting exhibits, attending to routine house keeping, using and maintaining filing and data systems, conducting room by room inventories of artifacts, and assisting the Curator in other museum tasks.
Candidate Profile: Candidates should be Canadian citizens or legal residents of Canada, should be at least Grade 12 graduates and returning to studies at a higher level next year. English proficiency is required but other language ability, especially French, would be an asset. Reliability and flexibility in a team work environment is expected. Basic retail skills and computer proficiency (Microsoft OS) also needed. Enthusiasm for sharing heritage narratives to visitors of all ages and backgrounds is essential. Some experience in leading tours or program planning would be preferred.

Estimated start date: May 25, 2018

Wage: $12.00/hr, 35 hrs per week

Duration of work period: 12 weeks (an extension may be possible depending on funding)
