Job Description

Job Title: Visitor & Member Services Assistant

Details: Part-time permanent
Saturday & Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm
14 hours per week with additional hours possible for special events
Note: The museum is closed December 18 – January 1.
Possibility of increasing to 24 hours per week in 2020 based on funding.

Salary: $15 per hour plus 4% vacation pay

Reporting Relationship: The Visitor & Member Services Assistant reports to the Society Administrator and the Managing Director of the Niagara Historical Society.

Job Purpose: To assist the Society Administrator with administrative functions related to visitor and member services.

Primary Responsibilities:
• Greet visitors, receive admissions, POS entry of gift shop sales, answer phone calls
• Take reservations/bookings for programs, events and tours and process payments
• Maintain database records for Society membership – process membership renewals, issue cards and correspondence
• Maintain database records for donations and donor information
• Maintain database of volunteer records
• Issue correspondence to donors, volunteers and members
• Assist with donor stewardship
• Produce volunteer manual and maintain up-to-date job descriptions
• Assist with distributing marketing materials and doing social media outreach for programs, exhibitions and events
• Assist at special events
• Assist with other duties as required

Physical Demands:
• May be required to perform small maintenance duties, set up tables and chairs for special events, move exhibit cases and other materials during events
• May be required to perform walking tours through the Old Town

Working Conditions and Environment:
• Required to work weekends and some evenings for special events and lectures
• Required to work with some chemicals used for maintenance & cleaning purposes

Knowledge and Skills Required:
• Excellent customer service skills
• Knowledge of the History of Niagara-on-the-Lake is an asset
• Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Publisher and Excel
• Experience working on database systems is an asset
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Post-secondary education in arts, social studies or administration
