Reporting to the Managing Director, NGC Foundation (NGCF), the Development Manager, Communications, will bring writing, communications, and public relations expertise, with the aim of enhancing the NGCF’s fundraising efforts and engaging key constituent groups, including prospective and current donors, the Board of Directors, Gallery staff and other key internal and external constituents. The incumbent will develop communications strategies that focus on donor engagement, solicitation, and stewardship, and elevate the NGCF’s visibility at a national level. This position acts as a professional resource for the Foundation’s fundraising and stewardship staff, and will work in close liaison with the Marketing, Communications and New Media teams at the National Gallery of Canada.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Writing

• Major Proposal Writing: In cooperation with relevant subject experts and including the conceptual input of the CEO, Chairman of the Board, and others as required, develop dynamic, high quality major gift proposals to prospects, both individual and corporate.
• Writing of strategic plans, governance reports for the Board of Directors, stewardship reports, case statements, donor communiqués on behalf of the CEO and Chairman of the Board, speaking notes for events, brochures, presentations, and NGCF webpage content updates.
• Research and write NGCF materials in support of fundraising priorities, and manage production from inception through delivery. Develop copy, secure photos, and coordinate content as needed.

Communications, Marketing and Media Relations

• Develop communications strategies that focus on strong donor engagement, solicitation, and stewardship. Strategies will ensure effective articulation of the NGCF’s desired brand image to internal and external stakeholders and audiences, and to broaden awareness, visibility and fundraising support across multiple stakeholders.
• Develop communications tools and materials: stewardship reports, case statements, donor communiqués on behalf of the CEO and Chairman of the Board, media releases, marketing and promotional materials, speaking notes for events, brochures, presentations, and website content updates.
• Working in cooperation with the Gallery’s media relations team, develop media strategies to mark major donations and other key NGCF initiatives. Ensure NGCF media efforts are aligned with Gallery activities and communications plans.
• Capture meaningful donor stories that illustrate the success of the NGCF’s programs on the Gallery’s online and social media platforms. Engage donors, Board of Directors, and staff to generate compelling content for the website, social media, and in print.
• Identify opportunities for the NGCF to increase the visibility of its brand and impact. Train and coach NGCF and NGC staff and stakeholders to be effective brand ambassadors.
• Website Management: maintain the NGCF’s website by ensuring that new and accurate information is posted on a regular basis.
• Attend NGCF and NGC events to secure communications content, including photography and videography. Support the planning and execution of fundraising events, with a focus on messaging, branding, and overall marketing.
• Develop and manage a monthly NGCF communications calendar to ensure clear and consistent donor communications. Strategically align timing of NGCF donor communications and content distribution with NGC activities to ensure maximum impact. Work closely with the NGCF’s Head, Patron Services and Events.

Government Relations
• Development of a master directory of government and industry contacts, associations, partners and experts to be used for a variety of NGCF purposes.
• Development and management of effective special partnerships with key government bodies and other agencies.
•Support CEO in the development of objectives, plans, and strategy for key policy engagement with government.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism or relevant field
• Minimum 3-5 years of communications, public relations, marketing, or development experience
• Demonstrated ability to create and implement a communications plan.
• Demonstrated strength in written word, and creating and managing written communications materials.
• Experience writing materials in support of fundraising, exceptional copywriting and editing skills
• Expertise in all aspects of communications practices and social media
• Knowledge of fundraising and stewardship strategies, principles, techniques
• Highly collaborative style; relationship-builder with excellent interpersonal skills
• Outstanding organizational and planning abilities; detail-oriented
• Enthusiastic, positive attitude
• Experience with content production
• Advanced proficiency in MS Office Suite
• Knowledge in or background of the arts/visual arts/museums/cultural institutions preferred
• Understanding of and dedication to the mission of the National Gallery of Canada
• Demonstrated ability to be organized, deadline focused, and have experience working with teams from across a large organization including senior leadership and volunteers
