Job Description:

Summary of Duties:
Reporting to the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Canada Science and Technology Museums Corporation, the
Vice President of Business Development is responsible to establish the revenue generation strategy for the Corporation. The
Vice President will liaise with the Corporation’s Executive Leaders and Senior Managers to integrate this strategy into the
overall revenue plan, and to negotiate internally for resources and deliverables to be offered. The incumbent is then
responsible to translate these internal products into rights and benefits valued for the external market and to negotiate with
these values to secure funds and/or product and services in kind, consistent with the Corporation’s long term goals. The
incumbent is responsible for long- term relationship building with organizations, and ensuring servicing of the sponsorship
agreements in an effort to renew agreements. The incumbent is responsible for liaising with the CSTMC Foundation in order
to develop revenue generating opportunities, transferring leads which have turned into philanthropic asks and picking up
philanthropic leads which are looking for Sponsor rights and benefits.
The incumbent is also responsible for market research which will guide the Corporation in maximizing revenue based on
industry trends and opportunities. As well, the incumbent will develop and implement a sales strategy for all museum products
and revenue generating business lines, and establish sales and profitability goals consistent with market. The incumbent is
responsible for the management of employees, including their professional development, and allocating time to ensure that
strategies can be optimized. He or she is also responsible for briefing and training Corporate employees in other divisions or
in the museums who will participate in securing revenues.
Given the size of the organization, Vice Presidents are expected to have the flexibility and adaptability to work simultaneously
at different levels. They must have the ability to think strategically and have a global, forward thinking view of the long term
objectives of the Museums and continuously incorporate those into the day-to-day operations of the organization. As a
member of the senior management team, Vice Presidents must also maintain a critical approach to their own departments to
make decisions and recommendations in consideration of what is best for the entire organization. 
Education and Experience:
As an ideal candidate, you have successfully completed a post-secondary education with a degree in marketing, business
management, or a related specialty or a combination of relevant education, professional training and experience relevant to
the position.
You also have experience in the following areas:
- a minimum of ten (10) years experience specifically in the area of sales with a track record of securing national and
international private partners;
- a minimum ten (10) years experience in sponsorship research and the preparation of sponsorship and partnership
proposals;
- a minimum of five (5) years managing staff, including formal training plans, coaching, evaluating and setting strategic and
operational objectives;
- experience in setting sales and profitability strategies and incorporating into Corporate Strategic plans - experience in
working in a government or crown corporation setting;
- demonstrated record of exceeding sales quotas;
- experience in representing an organization possessing multiple business lines;
- experience in developing Go to Market strategies;
- experience in a cultural institution would be considered an asset.

Knowledge:
- theories, principles and techniques of sales;
- knowledge of negotiation techniques to achieve closure;
- principles, techniques and practices of contracting to formulate formal legally binding licensing agreements;
- financial knowledge and ability to produce Return on Investment, cost/benefit analysis, risk analysis including market
environmental scans;
- techniques in problem analysis and problem solving;
- interpreting proposals, documents, discussion papers, etc.;
- positioning and developing Go to Market strategies.
Abilities:
- to prepare sales strategies and account plans;
- to write formal sponsorship packages;
- to make persuasive, articulate and concise presentations to varied audiences;
- to communicate with diplomacy when dealing with questions of a difficult, delicate and confidential nature;
- to manage a division within an organization, keeping the focus on Sponsorship strategy integrated with Corporate direction;
- create a profit generation plan striking the balance with return on investment and client satisfaction
- to organize the work of staff and other team members from other divisions to meet objectives;
- to create project plans and mange components on time to meet objectives;
- to create innovative ideas to link the market to museum products;
- to create pricing for tangibles and intangibles in exchange for rights and benefits to achieve success;
- to seize market opportunities.
