The Canadian Canoe Museum in Peterborough, Ontario, stewards the world’s largest collection of canoes, kayaks and paddled watercraft. More than 600 in number, the watercraft and their stories have a pivotal role to play in understanding our past – and our collective future.
Annual Giving Co-ordinator
Working with and reporting to the Director of Philanthropy, and communicating regularly with development volunteers, the Annual Giving Co-ordinator plays a key role in assisting to build the Canadian Canoe Museum’s organizational capacity to engage in fundraising and development. This will be accomplished by capturing and maintaining development-related information in a comprehensive database, co-ordinating the development-related work of volunteers and planning and executing fundraising and development initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
• Along with Organizing Committees of volunteers, the Annual Giving
Co-ordinator is the staff lead for the Beaver Club Gala, Books & Brunch, the Campfires & Cocktail Reception and new events that are brought forward to generate both awareness and revenue for the Museum;
• Manage and grow the Museum’s Adopt An Artifact program;
• Develop, distribute and report on the Museum’s Annual Giving Campaign;
• Review, manage and grow the Museum’s membership program;
• Develop, manage and grow the Museum’s partnership program;
• Communicate regularly with Museum members through the Member Newsletter, mailings and phone calls;
• Administer and update the comprehensive development database utilizing the Museum’s Sumac software package;
• Coordinate the creation, production and distribution of hard and soft-copy membership- and development-related campaign materials;
• Secure sponsorship for both revenue generating and non-revenue generating events at the Museum;
• Communicate with members to make them aware of lectures and other museum events of interest;
• Receive requests for and select recipients for community giving requests;
• Contribute to the compilation of data and development of text specific to the Development Office for the Museum’s Annual Report;
• Provide training, orientation, and supervision to Development Office volunteers regarding fundraising and development initiatives and policies;
• Work with the Director of Philanthropy on new initiatives as required;
• In consultation with the Director of Philanthropy, work with the Marketing & Community Relations Manager to create and maintain development-related sections of the museum’s website;
• Ensure the accuracy of donor and member information in the Development Office database.

Qualifications
• Completion of a Post-secondary degree or equivalent;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
• Strong organizational and time management skills;
• Ability to effectively coordinate multiple projects, deadlines and priorities;
• Excellent knowledge of Sumac;
• 2-3 years of data and gift entry experience;
• Accurate and efficient data entry skills;
• Excellent knowledge of Canada Revenue Agency’s receipting rules;
• Ability to work with sensitive information with complete confidentiality;
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point);
• Experience organizing events for both revenue generation and general awareness;
• Strong interpersonal and public relations skills and the ability to cultivate relationships with and communicate effectively with all donors, volunteers and other stakeholders;
• Team player that displays initiative;
• Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends to meet the objectives of the position;
• Must possess a valid driver's license, have access to a car and be willing to occasionally travel within Ontario.
