Job Description:

 


Reporting to the Director of Operations and Museum Services (Director OMS), the Temporary Supervisor and Senior Designer coordinates, directs, administers and reviews all aspects of the design, production, preparation and installation of exhibit graphics and in-house signage for the Design Department. Responsibilities include scheduling and delegating tasks to permanent and casual staff; organizing and tracking timelines for design, production and installation in collaboration with Gallery staff; and adhering to the Design Department budget as directed by the Director OMS.

The incumbent ensures all departmental projects are completed by the provided deadline, follow Gallery standards and style guides, are completed accurately and are installed safely. The incumbent ensures the feasibility of timelines and workload in collaboration with the design team and other Gallery departments. The incumbent ensures the approval of all costs associated with the design, production and installation of projects and coordinates departmental projects as required.
TRAINING, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE

Post secondary degree in design or related field plus 10 years of experience in a senior design or design supervisory role, coordinating a minimum of 15 design projects per year in a multi-staffed environment and supervising a minimum  of 5 reporting staff members. Demonstrated experience of design projects from concept through to final production required (portfolio.) Experience with unionized environments an asset.

Excellent knowledge and skills with Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop applications, Sketchup, Filemaker, MS Office, the current Mac OS and an understanding of file management on a shared server structure is required. Experience with designing for large format printing and die-cut vinyl is required. Knowledge of graphics print and die-cut materials, production requirements and graphic installation methods is required.
