The Educational Program Assistants are directly responsible for assisting with the planning, preparation, operation, and evaluation of the Summer Kids’ Museum Camps, working very closely with the Operation & Programs Manager. The camps are for ages 6-11 with themes ranging from science and technology to art and history. Planning includes organizing each week’s requirements (registrants, allergies, permissions, etc.), assisting with material prep for all crafts, experiments, and activities, scheduling field trips/workshops, and other tasks as needed. The students will also help the Operations & Programs Manager create and carry out a “Counsellor in Training” certificate program for high school students.
Specific job objectives include:
Planning, leading, and implementing core and non-core programs and experiences for children in a small group setting Liaise with other local community groups for special presentations/tours during camps and special events Assist the Collection Manager in developing interactive content in permanent exhibits and outreach kits (e.g. Indigenous history, geology, railway history, etc.)
Other annual events that the students will help organize include National Indigenous Peoples Day, St. Jean Baptiste Day, BC Day, Nights at the Museum, Family Day, CBT Culture Tour, and more. They will also assist in developing special activities for group tours, birthday parties, and facility rentals as needed.
All staff assist in the general operation and maintenance of the museum, archives, visitor centre, and discovery centre.

Essential Qualifications:
Experience working with families and children of all ages Experience and an interest in organizing crafts, games, experiments, and kids activities An interest in Rossland’s history and everything the area has to offer locals and visitors alike Must have excellent organizational skills, planning experience, and a passion for education and history Public speaking experience; Excellent English verbal and written communication skills Ability to work well in a team environment Experience in conflict resolution and problem-solving
Desired Qualifications:
Post-secondary education: Education, General Sciences, Museum Studies, History, Geology, or Drama. Customer service experience; experience with cash registers, POS machines, computers, etc. Experience working in the tourism and/or cultural sector Excellent computer skills (incl. use of Microsoft Office, Excel, Dropbox, etc.) Current First Aid certificate and RCMP Security Clearance (can be obtained prior to start)
