Position: Marketing & Communications Manager
Salary: Pay Grade 26 ($29.20 - $34.53)
Reports to: Director, Philanthropy and Marketing
Hours: Full Time position with flexible hours, some evenings and weekends required
Closing Date: June 4, 2018

Nature of Position
The Marketing & Communications Manager has primary responsibility for managing the museum’s marketing department with direction from the Director, Philanthropy and Marketing. This position will develop and implement strategic marketing plans for the Museum that enhance MOV’s visibility and reputation, drive event and program attendance, increase admissions, rentals and group sales.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Responsible for developing marketing strategies and plans for the Museum’s exhibitions, programs and events using both traditional and new media techniques that increase brand awareness, target identified audiences and meet annual targets for admission, rentals and groups sales.
• Develops and implements social media strategy for MOV and its community partners.
• Develops and monitors annual marketing budget including media buys.
• Negotiates annual contracts with tourism and third party ticket sales agents.
• Develops, monitors, analyzes and reports on key marketing and sales metrics, regularly tracking progress towards goals.
• Evaluates marketing strategies for effectiveness and adjusts plans as required.
• Responsible for developing and producing all Museum materials
• Oversees design of marketing, communications, sales and other key print and digital materials through contract designers.
• Creates and maintains, in partnership with exhibition and programming staff, a plan for on-site signage that enhances the brand and improves the visitor experience.
• Manages the Museum’s website content, improving the user experience, maintaining functionality and managing updates.
• Responsible for creating and implementing media relations plans
• Oversees MOV’s external communications through appropriate channels including but not limited to media releases, public service announcements, newsletters, social media and website.
• Develops and manages marketing and sales budgets including monitoring performance to key performance indicators.
• Supervises, trains, coaches and develops staff and volunteer team to support marketing activities.

Required Qualification, Knowledge, Education and Skills
• Expertise in building and implementing marketing/sales strategies with proven ability to meet targets.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Exceptional writing and communication skills.
• Demonstrated proficiency and experience in use of computer systems including Adobe InDesign, CRM, website publishing platforms, photo shop, social media, and other related software.
• Considerable knowledge of print production and pre-press knowledge.
• Ability to take projects from concept through final production.
• Demonstrated experience in developing and monitoring budgets.
• Exceptional copywriting, editing and proofreading skills.
• Experience in market research, analysis and reporting.
• The ability to multi-task and manage time in a fast-paced, multi-faceted organization.
• Ability to build effective teams and motivate co-workers, volunteers and direct reports.
• Substantial experience working with the media to achieve marketing/media relations goals.
• Ability to organize people and activities and establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, volunteers, direct reports, community groups, and other key contacts.
• Ability to work independently and to exercise independent decision-making and sound judgment.
• Knowledge and experience with local, regional and provincial arts and cultural sector and tourism industry.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in marketing/communications or a related field.

Experience
• A minimum of five years related marketing management and supervisory experience is required, preferably in a non-profit setting.

Note: This position falls under the jurisdiction of CUPE local 15.
