The position involves working with the Archives Registrar on our backlog completion project, which includes accessioning and deaccessioning items in the Museum’s collection. This project will require the Intern to have a strong familiarity with databases, digitization, electronic records, and a working knowledge of the local history of Summerland. The Intern will be an adaptable and energetic self-starter who is friendly, responsible, and conscientious. He or she will be responsible for:

-Accessioning and deaccessioning the Museum’s collection, including physical arrangement (like sorting, boxing, labeling).

-Digitizing important historical documents and photos.

-Identifying and assessing the archival value of objects.

-Managing and interpreting historical photos, particularly for outreach and educational purposes.

-Creating database records.

-Answering inquiries related to local history.

-Performing research regarding local history.

-Making the archives accessible to a wide range of users.

-Assisting the Archives Registrar and Museum Administrator in other duties as assigned.

This description of tasks should not be construed to contain every task that the Intern may be assigned. Interns will be asked to carry out other related duties as required.
This is a grant-funded position through the Young Canada Works Program. The candidate must be between the ages of 16 and 30, be a recent graduate who has graduated from a college or university within the last 24 months at the start of employment, and be legally entitled to work in Canada. A Criminal Record Check is required. This is a paid ($16.00 per hour), hourly office-based position (which is wheelchair accessible) lasting up to six months. It will have a flexible schedule of 30 hours a week, Tuesday to Saturday. All applicants must make their own living arrangements for them to stay within commuting distance to Summerland, BC.

Resumes with a cover letter can be emailed to info@summerlandmuseum.org as soon as possible.
