Job Description:

 


Reporting to and collaborating with the Director of SFU Galleries, the Curator of SFU Galleries plans, administrates and executes programs at the Galleries (SFU Gallery, Audain Gallery and Teck Gallery). The Curator works in collaboration with local and international institutions as well as neighbourhood and community groups to support the use of the Galleries as platforms for public education and dialogue around art and its attendant ideas. The incumbent researches, develops, and executes curatorial projects (exhibition, public programming and publications) through on-going involvement and interaction with artists and partners. The Curator works closely with the Visual Arts program at the School for the Contemporary Arts in the coordination, execution, and promotion of annual undergraduate and graduate student exhibitions at the Audain Gallery, and with the Audain Visual Artists in Residence program for the coordination and organization of all aspects of the Visual Artists in Residence program they relate to the Audain Gallery. In collaboration with the Director, the Curator proactively seeks opportunities to secure grants or partnerships for support of the Galleries.

Qualifications:
• Undergraduate degree in Visual Art or Curatorial Studies with a minimum of four years recent curatorial experience in an art gallery or a museum including experience researching, developing, and presenting art exhibitions; developing and managing budgets; supervising staff; and overseeing exhibit production, installation, and publicity.
